Floating Shelves

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

A friend sent me a link to floating bookshelves as a joke... and I bought them. They are awesome! They are tiny little L-shaped pieces of metal that you can't even see once they're up. You put the back cover of the bottom book under the bottom of the shelf and it clips into a tiny lip on the shelf. Voila floating books!

They hold up to 15 lbs. of books and I actually have a tiny bit of space on my bedside table again!

I think everyone should have one (or two) of these! It's on my organizational Christmas list.

I know! It was hard to limit myself to only two, but any higher and I couldn't have reached the books.

I really love those - and didn't realize how affordable they are! I need to get me some. :)

How tricky! I love them! After all, a room simply can't have enough books : ) XO Katie

Those look fun! Although I can't help the scaredy feeling I get looking at them, as if they might suddenly fall. Lol.

Trust me, I had the same concern Claire. But we made sure to hang them directly in the middle of a stud. Also, because the back cover clips into the back of the shelf, it somehow helps hold the books' weight that way. I don't understand quite how it works, but I know it does.
