Where in the World Are You Reading: Reading Companion

Wednesday, November 7, 2012

This month's Where in the World Are You Reading, hosted by Kailana, Lisa, and Trish is "Reading Companions."  I have one obvious reading companion, my big dog Oliver. Ollie will be two years old in December, but it's hard to remember what reading was like before we got him.

Whether he's curled up on my lap (which he is way too big to do, but still attempts) or playing fetch while I read with him outside, my big 75 lb baby keeps me company when I read. Ollie is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and has a ton of energy, so I enjoy the moments when he's tired and ready to curl up for a nap.

I especially appreciate him in the winter when it's freezing cold. He's the equivalent of a giant space heater! I've had cats in the past and love curling up with them as well, but they never keep you quite as warm.

Big dogs are just so huggable! and are good for tucking feet under to keep warm.

No reading companions here in our Italian home, but it used to be cats, when we lived in the UK.

Oliver is awesome, and how nice to have a reading buddy! I have a friend with two Chesapeake Bay retrievers -- they're such fun dogs. Definitely energetic.

Always love to see photos of your dog, he's gorgeous.

I know this month's theme had pets in mind, but I don't have pet and am a bit stuck for ideas. I guess my most frequent book companion is a can of Diet Coke of a cup of hot tea...

Kat - Dogs are the best!

LindyLou - I've had cats my whole life, but the Huz is allergic. When we got married I had to find a new home for my two cats. I still get to visit one of them because my brother and sister-in-law took her.

Meg - Chessies are really common on the east coast because that's where the breed originated, but there are so few in the midwest!

Alex - I think drink totally count, so do the characters in the books! Really they are the best reading companions.

Awww what a gorgeous dog! He looks like a sweetie.

I have two big dogs as well and the one's a cuddler and the other likes to come over every once in a while and lick the book pages while I'm reading, mostly because she's a brat haha.

He is quite the cutie!!!

Yes, dogs that are snuggle bunnies are great in the winter. A dog and a nice blanket make for the perfect reading partners.

Nikki - That's hilarious. I love seeing pets' personalities come out.

Kailana - Absolutely, you're cat is adorable!

Carl - Yes, and maybe a big mug of something warm.

Awww! What a sweetie! I have cat reading companion and while they do keep my lap warm, my feet are still freezing! I can recognize the advantage of having a big dog as a reading companion in the winter! :)

I love that you call him Ollie! I would love to name a little girl Olivia and call her Ollie but Scott would not. :) He's such a beautiful dog and I love that he loves to cuddle with you.

Trish - Aww, I love the name Olivia! Yeah, Ollie is ridiculously cuddly. He thinks he is tiny and can curl up in your lap... but he's 75 lbs.
