The Broke and the Bookish asked for the Top Ten Popular Authors I've Never Read. I broke it up into five authors I want to read and can’t believe I’ve never gotten to and five that I’m fine if I don’t ever read them.

I've never read Murukami either. I know he's someone i should want to read, but i just can't do it. I don't know why.
Murakami IS intimidating. I've read his memoir (5 stars) and The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. He is different than anyone else I've ever read, that is for sure. I've got Kafka on the Shore up soon. And I would also add that Dean Koontz is actually a great storyteller, beyond all his scary woo-woo stuff.
I want to read Murakami, too!

Melissa Mc - I was on a Patterson kick my freshman year of college. It's like reading the same book over and over again.
I really want to read more Murakami. I've read two that I enjoyed: Norwegian Wood and After Dark.
Oh yes Murakami!! I adored Kafka on the Shore. I think you'd like him. And no 50 Shades huh? LOL!
I haven't got round to reading Trollope yet either. I've had two of his novels sitting on my shelf for years. Marquez is an incredible writer, I hope you enjoy his work when you get to it. And I completely agree with you on not feeling the need to read E.L. James. :)

Koontz isn't prefect but he does have some good stuff out there. I respect your right to have your own opinion about him but just incase you feel like giving any of those last five authors a stay of execution my vote is for him
Nora Roberts is on my list too, and I agree, I don't really care to read her in the future.
Ha! fun. I share your reluctance or whatever it is to read what I call "books with titles in smaller print than the author name". Not that I would ever deny they must be good story tellers but I just don't prefer to read the popular stuff very often.
I am so curious about Trollope. Murakami shouldn't intimidate. He's just... ODD.
I agree with all 5 of your don't want to read! I just read my first Murakami in February (Norwegian Wood) and was shocked at how much he annoyed me with his female characters. BUT...his writing was amazing and I will be continuing on. Trollope is a favorite from college!!
Andi - Everyone keeps telling me Norwegian Wood is a good place to start with his work.

Kat - I've never felt any desire to read romance novels.
bkclubcare - That's the perfect way to put it, authors whose names are bigger than the titles on their books.
