The Cement Garden would have made it to my list, too. That was overall a heavy book to read.
Now that list is two tons of fun! Haha! Just reading it makes me cringe. However, I really did love Speak and Columbine. Couldn't put them down.
I have only read one of the books on your list--Columbine. It blew me away. Generally, I try to stay away from books that tear me up.
SPEAK made my list, too. I love the individuality of each person's list this week - everyone has different 'tough subjects' that hit close to home for them. THE YEARLING didn't come to mind for me, but that book is so beautiful and sad...
Thanks for sharing! If you'd like, you can check out my list here.
Riv - I know! It was so disturbing and yet it was so short.
Sandy - Ha, this week's theme isn't really an upper.
annieb - Well then this is a perfect list of books to avoid!
Cecelia - That's so true! Everyone picks subjects that are tough for them. Somehow no Holocaust books made it on to my list, though that's obviously a tough topic.
They look so much harder to process when the "tough subject" is hanging out there all by itself. lol I enjoyed Speak, but I don't think I've read any of the others! Ack!
Andi - I didn't even think about that! I guess it is much harsher without explanations!
