Tell us about the classic book(s) you’re reading this month.
I’m planning on reading either Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome or Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut is already a favorite author and this one has been on my TBR list for years. The other is a children’s classic and the beginning of a series. People always talk about how wonderful these books are and I thought a lovely children’s summer adventure book might be perfect in the midst of Spring.

My boss loves Swallows and Amazons from his childhood. I believe that Ransome's backstory is rather fascinating too if you get a chance to look into his bio.
Swallows and Amazons is good but as I haven't read Vonnegut I don't know how they compare. Hope you will enjoy both of them.
What children's book do you plan on reading? I've read one for the Classics Club already and I plan on reading at least one more. I've been reading a lot of children's books (classic and contemporary) the past couple years (since having kids of my own) and I've gotten a lot more critical of them.
I am a big fan of Swallows and Amazons.
I am reading Oliver Twist a carry over from the Classics Spin
Brona Joy - I'll have to look up info on him. I love learning author's back stories.
Cat - I've read lots of Vonnegut, so I decided to go with Swallows and Amazons first!
Loni - I'm reading a few of the older classics like the Wizard of Oz series and re-reading old favorites like The Secret Garden. It's different to read them as an adult.
Jeanne - I decided to read that one first and it was so fun!
readinpleasure - If it's your first Dickens I would highly recommend following it up with Great Expectations, which I loved much more.
Swallows and Amazons sounds really fun!
Sarah - I can't believe I missed that whole series when I was young!
I've never read any Vonnegut so can't comment on that. I have however read Swallows and Amazons and - sorry to say - found it really tedious. Yes I know I am not in the age group of the intended reader but even if I was I would be less than satisfied with the lack of adventure.
Karen - I've finished Swallows now and I definitely understand your reaction. I think it would have been much better to read when I was little.
