Top Ten Books I Hope Santa Brings

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

This week's Top Ten from The Broke and the Bookish asks for 10 books you're dying to get for Christmas.

1) Underdogs by Markus Zusak

2) Sense and Sensibility: The Bath Bicentenary Edition by Jane Austen

3) A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

4) Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick

I adore the Penguin Hardcover series and have been slowly collecting them over the last couple years. I would love to add a few more to my shelves.

5) Lady Chatterley's Lover (Penguin Hardcover Classics) by D. H. Lawrence

6) Northanger Abbey (Penguin Hardback Classics) by Jane Austen

7) Bleak House (Penguin Hardback Classics) by Charles Dickens

8) Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol

9) The Adventures of Robin Hood (Puffin Classics) by Richard Green

10) Out of Print clothes - I know these aren’t books, but the final bookish thing on my wishlist is T-shirt from Out of Print. I’m completely enamored with them, especially the new Women’s Catch-22 and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

I like the presence of graphic novels alongside well-established classics - nice diversity! Personally, I second your interest in the Out-of-Print t-shirts - I've had my eye on the The Master and Margarita shirt for a while now, but keep neglecting to buy it...

I hope Santa brings at least a few of the books from you for Christmas :-) A Monster Calls was really good (it's the only book I've read from your list).

I also have Sense & Sensibility on my list, but it's the Penguin classics hardcover edition (so pretty). You'll like the Lady Chatterley's Lover PCHE--it's a gorgeous bright orange that makes it stand out on the shelf.

Beautiful list. I actually quite liked Lady Chatterley's Lover ... it was a little more intense than I was expecting, haha. I would love to get Bleak House for Christmas too.

Totally agree with you on the Zusak book, and I got Anya's Ghost from Heather for Christmas! I'm reading it next, after I finish my current read. LOVE GNs!!!

Biblio - Thanks! I like that shirt too. I made a rule that I can only own the t-shirts for the books I've read and loved, but there's still too many options.

Nymeth - Me too!

Diane - I'm not a big shopper, but that's one clothing shop I can't get enough of.

GF Book Mom - I'm a sucker for all things Austen.

Tanya - I've had so many people tell me it's good. I can't wait to read it.

Teacher/Learner - I love the Penguin classics hardcover editions! They are so beautiful.

IngridLola - Lady has been on my TBR list for too long and that edition is so lovely.

confessionsofacommonreader - Me too. There's something great about getting a beautiful edition of a book you know you'll love to re-read.

Sandy - Lucky you! I love mixing the GNs in with regular reading. They are a great way to break up big chunksters.

Brenna - I know, everyone is raving about it.

Jenners - I'd be thrilled with one or two!

Nothing like the original... looks like you're an Austen purist. No spin-off's can compare to reading Jane's novels. Bleak House is one of my all time favorites too. As for Wonderstruck, have you seen this video from Scholastic? I hope you'll receive all your wish list items for Christmas. ;)

Oh, if you order from the Book Depository, you can get the Persuasion Penguin clothbound now. They were already released in the UK. Tell your hubby. ;)

Kailana - Santa, the Huz, I'll take what I can get.

Karis - You have a great list too!

Sharon - Out of Print has something for everyone, definitely look them up.

Arti - I hadn't seen that video, it's awesome! I love how enthusiastic he is about the museum, like a kid in a candy shop.

Allie - Oh my gosh Allie, I had no idea you could get them at the Book Depository! Thank you for telling me! Must resist the impulse to buy it for myself.

Trisha - Everyone's comments have made me decide that it's a must read for next year.

Jillian - Isn't that one beautiful! It was already on my re-read list for next year, so it would be perfect.

I highly approve of all the classics on your list. Great picks. :)

Have you read I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak, by the way? I highly recommend it. It's completely different from The Book Thief, but almost as good. Like The Book Thief, it also made me cry.
