About Me

My Photo
Melissa (Avid Reader)
I love books and I'll read just about anything. I tend to read a lot of literary fiction and classics, but I'm always looking for recommendations. I'm in my 20s and have been reading for as long as I can remember. My Rating System (I rate on my personal reaction to the book): ★ = one star ☆ = 1/2 star ★★★★★: A new favorite, a must-read ★★★★: Liked it a lot ★★★: Nothing special, but OK ★★: Not my cup of tea ★: Waste of time

Christmas Movies

Tonight I'll be having wine and cheese with a few good friends and watching my favorite Christmas movie of all time, It's a Wonderful Life. There is just something about Jimmy Stewart, with his earnestness and desperation that makes it irresistible for me. It always makes me cry and I'm not a big crier. I can't wait to watch it again.

I'm a big fan of Elf, Love Actually, Home Alone and White Christmas too. The Huz loves Christmas Vacation. What is it about the holidays that brings out the sap in all of us?

What's your favorite Christmas movie?

The ones I grew up with were Home Alone and Scrooged, so I have a soft spot for them to this day. Last year I watched the Muppets Christmas Carol for the first time and it became an instant favourite.

ooooh, I love this post. My hubby and I have a list of movies that we work our way through every December, including It's a Wonderful Life, and you're right there is something so irresistible about Jimmy. I also love A Christmas Story, Bad Santa (there's also something irresistible about Billy Bob Thornton, but in an entirely different way from Jimmy!), and the 1994 version of Little Women.

Happy Holidays!

Confession: I've never actually seen It's a Wonderful Life. I watched the first half of it once and fell asleep.

Besides Elf, Love Actually and Home Alone (have you ever played the Home Alone drinking game? Google it) I'm obsessed with The Holiday. I've watched it three times in the last few weeks. I'm also a sucker for Miracle on 34th Street - both the old and new version.

I'll be watching this tonight, too, and Christmas Vacation Xmas Eve. So many classic movies set during the holidays...

Miracle on 34th St (both versions) and just awfully fond of the tone-deaf heroine in Prancer. :-P

Elf is probably mine … though we didn't quite get around to watching it this year.

Hope you had the merriest of Christmases and wishing you a wonderful 2012!
