A Day in the Life

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Trish is hosting the second A Day in the Life event and since my life has changed a LOT since last year's post I was excited to particpate again. It's fascinating to see how these little details add up to create our crazy days. If you want to participate just post about one day in your life.

I recorded the details of my day on Tuesday, March 15.

12:40 to 1:13 - Sydney woke up and I nursed her. I read Voyage of the Dawn Treader on my phone while she nursed. I'm slowly rereading all of Chronicles of Narnia in the wee hours of the morning. Then back to sleep for both of us. This is what we do now.

4:18 to 4:36 - Same as before, Sydney woke up and I nursed her and changed her diaper. Then back to sleep for both of us. This is a huge improvement. Up until about two weeks ago, my girl was waking up about every two hours (or less!) to eat.

7:00 -Got up and made a quick breakfast (yogurt, fruit, and granola). Diaper change for Miss Sydney. Got myself and my girl dressed and let my dog Ollie out to go to the bathroom.

8:32 to 8:56 - Nursed. Headed out the door to go to Bible Study Fellowship. (Forgot to take any pictures).

9:15 to 11:30 - Sydney got hungry and had to nurse in the middle of Bible study and then had a huge diaper blowout during the lecture. It was a poopocalypse.

11:45 - Stopped at Starbucks to get a decaf coffee. I miss the real stuff, but since I'm breastfeeding and she has been sleeping so badly at night I'm not going to risk it yet.

12 to 12:30 - Back at home we picked out a few books in her nursery and read together on the couch.

12:45 to 1: Sydney napped while I made a turkey wrap for lunch. Then she hung out in her bouncey chair in the bathroom while I managed to take a quick shower!

1:30 - Unlike most days I actually put makeup on. I listened to the Scarlet audiobook while I got ready. I'm trying to see what all the fuss is about with the Lunar Chronicles.

1:45 - It was beautiful outside, so I took Relish by Lucy Knisley and Sydney to our front porch and we hung out there for a bit and enjoyed the weather.

2 to 4:20 - Sydney nursed on and off this whole time! She's a cluster feeder and so sometimes I'm just glued to the couch while she nurses. Since I've been on maternity leave I've watched all of The West Wing and The Wonder Years. I should probably use the time to read more, but sleep deprivation is making reading a little hard at times.

5:30 to 6:30 - My husband got home from work and made BLTs for dinner while I nursed. We add avocado when we make them, because avocado makes everything better!

6:45 - My sister (who is pregnant with her sixth kiddo!) came over and we got to go to my first play since before Sydney was born! I review live theatre at Stage Write and have missed seeing shows since going on maternity leave. We saw Newsies! We watched the 1992 film version all the time when we were growing up, so it was a blast. It was also my longest time away from Sydney since she was born, which was hard, but went ok.

10:30 - Got home and pumped milk. Gabe had already given Sydney a bottle of breadtmilk and she was asleep.

Midnight - Finished pumping and went to bed.

This time in my life is not quite normal for me. Sydney is two months old and I'm going back to work fulltime soon. I'm glad I'll have a little snapshot of one of our days together. The past few weeks have been a blur or diaper changes, nursing, and trying to figure out this whole motherhood thing.

Your daughter is so precious I fall in love with her more and more everytime you post a photo of her! So happy for you, Melissa. I love the joy on your face and these busy days are just signs of absolute bliss.

This was lovely, truly. So glad to see your little bundle of joy. She's a cutie deluxe! Bet you and your sister did enjoy Newsies. My daughter loved that show and watched it all the time - with singing. Thanks for taking the time to share your day with us. Good luck with going back to work soon. This is a special time of life and you have so many more to come. :-)

My thoughts:
1) Sydney is precious!
2) Poopocalypse, I remember you well.
3) Awww, you're reading The Little House. I love that book!
4) I'm glad I'm not the only book blogger to be less than impressed with The Lunar Chronicles. :/
5) My sister and I used to watch Newsies on repeat too. :D

I was thinking that too--how much has changed between now and last year. While some things haven't, other things certainly have as my daughter gets older. OF course, for you, it's having a baby in the home. :-) She's so precious! The day you shared brings back so many memories. :-)

How cool that you got to see Newsies. I would love to see that.

Thank you for sharing!

Here is a day in my life.

Your daughter is very precious! I remember those days that seemed to revolve all around nursing and diapers. :) How fun that you got out of the house for a little while. Thanks for sharing.

Things do change! Random comments: avocado (and cheese) does make everything better! When i was nursing I had a middle-of-the-night TV series instead of audiobook: Battlestar Galatica. Sixth? R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

What a great day! And yes, avocados DO make everything better! Also, Newsies! I get to see it in June. So excited!

Beautiful photo of the baby and the dog, and you and your sister! You had a great day, albeit different than what you are used to pre-baby.

I like that you are able to read different books at different times (and situations) of the day. Have a good week ahead.

Your baby is so adorable! My maternity leave was spent in a dedicated relationship with Netflix. My two youngest kids were cluster feeders and my brain couldn't handle staying awake to read.

poopocalypse! We have the opposite problem--not enough poop. I'm constantly telling Cara that if she would just poop then she'd probably be happier (she is happy most of the time). Funny...when did we start writing about poop in blog comments. :P

While I don't usually watch a lot of TV during the day, I do waste a TON of time playing Two Dots on my phone. It's ridiculous. :) And I do the same with the shower--bouncer on the floor. Glad your first long night out went well! And you look great!

I'm seriously impressed you're reading as much as your reading - especially during late night feedings. I think I mostly watched TV because my brain was mush. Oh the diaper blowouts! Such fond memories! Sydney is such a cutie and I love her smile in the bouncy seat pic. I love how many books you mix in during the day. I loved Dawn Treader - more as an adult than a child for some reason - and Relish is the first graphic novel that I've read and enjoyed. I'm listening to Cinder right now and am enjoying it though it's so far from my normal reads.

Yeah, it's kinda baby-baby-baby for those first few months. :D Imagine how different next year's post will be! :D

So cool that you finally got to go see a play! I bet you've missed it. I didn't realize you wrote about theatre! That's so cool!

I love the doggie watching over her girl while you take a shower. My daughter and I attend as many plays/musicals together as we can. In April we are going to The Phantom of the Opera.

Your baby is so cute!! That face! Thanks for sharing your day :)

Sydney is so adorable, but days with a little one are so exhausting!! Seeing your first play post-baby is exciting. We saw Newsies on Broadway a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your day.

Sounds like this motherhood role suits you well. You will forget the hectic days once she is grown.

And what a lovely day! :)

Your daughter is adorable! I love your READ letters! Did you make them? I used to attend BSF too and miss it. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your day!

Jillian - She really is the sweetest!

Kay - Newsies was such a fun show!

abibliophilestyle - I read Cinder a couple years ago and wasn't impressed. I decided to pick up the next book because so many people have been talking about the series. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would, but it's not an addictive one for me.

Literary Feline - it feels like the time has gone by so fast!

Mybookstrings - Getting out of the house definitely take some planning, but it's so good for my sanity!

Alex - Mmmmm cheese. I'm frustrated about Battlestar Galactica. I tried to watch it and got through half the show and then Netflix got rid of it. Now I don't know where I can finish watching it!

Suey- Newsies was so fun. You'll love it!

Rita - I love reading different books at the same time.

Figandthistle- Yes! That was definitely me for the first six weeks. My brain was way too tired to focus on reading and so I just binged Netflix shows.

She is so cute. I have to say, I don't miss those exploding poops. :)
Glad you were able to enjoy a play. I have been wanting to see Newsies.

Trish - I'm going to have to check out Two Dots! Poor Cara, yeah lack of baby poop is not a problem at our house right now.

Katherine P - There's definitely been a lot more TV watching then reading in the past few weeks. I'm definitely appreciating the Narnia books in a different way as an adult.

Amanda - I have already realized each stage goes by so quickly.

Andi - Yeah, I started reviewing live theatre in 2006 when I worked for a daily newspaper. I love it!

Nise - Oh fun! I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to go with me!

JoAnn - It really is exhausting!

Diane - I know these days will just seem like a blur!

Stacie - No, my best friend got them on etsy for my baby shower. I love them!

Mari - I don't think I'll miss them either!

I can't think about what to say--my mind is just filled with cute little Sydney's smiles!! She is adorable. You had a great day. I'm impressed you get out the door for early Bible Study...I couldn't get ready that early when I had small babies.

I bet it felt sooo good to go off to a play! I can see how your time is totally filled each day! It's good to take some time out just for you.

So lovely to get a glimpse of your day. Series watching becomes a different sort of challenge as the kids get older. It's now hard to get all 4 of us home on the same night to watch The Walking Dead, but cause they're out so often, Mr Books & I get to rewatch West Wing together. Swings and roundabouts :-)

And yes, avocado does make everything better!

I'm trying to see what all the fuss is about with the Lunar Chronicles, too. Every book club meeting someone nominates the first book in the series, and the wait list for the library is so, so long. I think I'll have to break down and buy the book to see why people love it so.

Sydney is adorable! I confess that I scrolled through looking at all the pics and then went back to read about your day.
