Top Ten Favorite Musicals

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

Last month I picked my own Top Ten Topic for The Broke and the Bookish meme and I'm doing it again. Here are my Top Ten Favorite Musicals. As I mentioned before, I love live theatre and I'm lucky enough to get to see a ton of productions because I review shows once a week at Stage Write! Musicals get a bad rap sometimes, but they can be so incredibly good without being cheesy when they are well done.

1) Les Misérables
2) Singin' in the Rain
3) RENT
4) The Sound of Music
5) Wicked
6) In the Heights
7) Cabaret
8) Jersey Boys
9) My Fair Lady
10) Chicago

Oh, I love musicals! Most of the live musicals I've seen were community theatre (thankfully, we have a fabulous local one!), but I've seen a fair amount of touring shows as well, including Wicked and Chicago. I like your topic. :D

This topic would be just as hard for me as selecting favorite novels.... so hard to limit it to just 10!

The Little Mermaid? It's the only one I know ALL the songs by heart.

I should really work on incorporating more musicals into my life. I can't remember the last time I saw one live - it was probably back in high school or college. I do love to watch The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady (film versions) on a bad day...

Excellent list. I would have to put Guys and Dolls and Kiss Me Kate on my list of favorites, but otherwise there is a lot of overlap in our lists.

So funny!!! Next weeks topic is favorite not books so I started drafting my post about musicals. Five of yours are also on my top ten. Les Miserables is definitely my favorite...unless I'm in a Phantom mood. Love this.

abibliophilesstyle - I love that there are so many wonderful local community theatres around the country. Such a great opportunity to see different shows.

JoAnn - I completely agree!

bkclubcare - Ha, I never saw the stage version of that one, but I loved the movie when I was growing up.

Cecelia - I love both of those movies too : )

Mary R - Guys and Dolls is definitely a great one!

Trish - That's hilarious! Great minds think alike. I loved Phantom too!

You have no Andrew Lloyd Webber on your list! Could the simply be an oversight? I love Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar. But at least you are spreading the Musical love.

52booksorbust - I'm not a huge fan of Webber **Ducks Head To Avoid Flying Tomatoes** Evita and Phantom I like, but I can't stand Cats and Joseph.
