I've been to Crater Lake, and it's uniquely captivating.

My dad used to tell a story of how, when he was a young man in the 1950's, he visited the park and rode the launch which - in those days anyway - stopped at Wizard Island. He stayed on the island alone for a few hours one afternoon in between visits by the launch, and described it as the most wonderful solitude...
