Book List: 3 Books That Should Be Made Into Movies

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

This weeks list, from Lost in Books, is 3 Books That Should Be Made Into Movies.

This is such a tough question, because you know if they make a movie of your favorite book they will probably do a horrible job. But here's my list anyway.

1) Ender's Game
I can't believe this hasn't been made into a movie yet. It's such a fantastic book and it seems like it wouldn't be impossible to adapt the plot to a screenplay.

2) The Hunger Games
I've heard there's already a movie in the works for this one and I hope it's true.

3) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
I believe there has already been a Swedish movie made of this, but since I can't get my hands on it, I'd love to see an English version.

Ahh, Ender's Game. Every time I teach this book, the kids want to know why there isn't a film version. I know there were various people playing around with proposals, but there are certainly some challenges in filming it while remaining true to the text. Finding someone who looks five and can play Ender, for example.. not to mention all the other kids.

Have you seen any of the graphic novels for it yet? I've only seen some online excerpts, but they look good.

You're so right...I don't know why I didn't think of Ender's Game. But tedleach is so right about the challenge of finding someone who looks young enough to pay Ender and who could express all that he feels.

Hunger Games was optioned for a movie but I didn't care for the actresses that they were considering (at the time) for Katniss. They were talking about gorgeous babes and I don't see Megan Fox as Katniss. They haven't made a final decision but she would not work.

As for Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, the film is available in Sweden. I wonder if Netflix would have it.
