Salem's Lot Readalong

Thursday, October 1, 2015

Who is ready to be scared silly? I don't remember who exactly started the Stephen King readalongs (Trish? Jill?), but the first big King novel I ever read was The Stand and I wouldn't have done it without a group.

This month Trish, Care, and I are co-hosting a readalong of Salem's Lot. I might be crazy to do this while pregnant (I already scare easily), but Trish is pregnant too, so if she can do it then so can I!

This will be a laid back readalong. I will definitely do a wrap up post at the end of October, but I think we will mainly be sharing thoughts on twitter with the hashtag #SalemAlong as we go. Thanks to Trish for the awesome button that she made! Feel free to use it on your blogs, twitter, or instagram.

If you'd like to join in the fun, which you definitely should, just add a link to your blog in the comments. Also, send your address to my email (avidreader25 [at] gmail.com) and I'll send you something silly for participating. Jill started that trend with sunglasses for The Shining and clown noses for It

So here's go nothing. You can always put it in the freezer if you get too scared.

How exactly did I get roped into hanging out with two pregnant co-hosts on this thing?! yikes.

Oh good. Time to do a re-read of my first Stephen King book! I'll write about it at some point. I'm not on Twitter, so I won't be joining in there, but I am looking forward to seeing how this book holds up for me. I'm at http://kaysreadinglife.blogspot.com and I definitely won't be putting it in the freezer (loved that Friends episode!). One more thing - no sparkles in 'SALEM'S LOT. LOL LOL

bkclubcare - Don't pretend, you know you love it :)

Kay - It will be good to hear opinions from someone who has already read it. And yay for no damn sparkles!

I'm joining up! I did the Misery Read-a-long also....I'm the weird (old lady )who does have a Twitter account, but doesn't really 'get' it. Care and Trish were kind and helped me along last time (thank you!)
I'm excited to read this one!

PS I'm not really THAT old -- not yet 60 --- Just like trying the title on to see how it fits.

Debbie - Ha, you'll do great. Care and Trish are way better at Twitter than I am.

Hurray! I'm excited to start this scary read. And I will stop whining about the nightmare factor. I've actually wanted to read more of King's classics ... so thank you for hosting #SalemAlong!

wordhits - I've always wanted to read this one too. And if we're going to read a scary book, at least October is the perfect time!

It's official. My library really doesn't want me to participate in any of these readalongs. They NEVER have his books in stock. Someone has stolen them all or something. But even the Electronic Versions are unavailable. WHAT GIVES?!?

Neither of my libraries had this book, either! They had everything else by Uncle Stevie. I got the e-book from Amazon.

Yep. I am in.

Ohhh if only I'd spotted this earlier, but I'm already way over-committed for Oct and Nov. But this sounds like a fun scared readalong - I look forward to the screams, oh I mean , reviews!

Well of course I'm in. ;) Finally bought the ebook...though I'm not sure when I'll start. Diversiverse really has me torn in a couple of directions!

And yay for scary! Though do you find that you've been having vivid dreams during your pregnancy? I don't think I did so much with the others, but every single night I have the strangest dreams. Not sure that bodes well for reading King!!!

Becca - Boo. Your library doesn't want you to join in the fun.

Susan - Man, must be a popular one this month! I'm glad you still got a copy though.

Ti - Woo hoo!

Hazel - Welcome to the fun!

Brona - I completely understand! That's what usually happens when I see reading events. So many good things happening all the time!

Trish - I have been having vivid dreams! I had one about an escaped tiger the other night. So reading King right now should be interesting.

Woohoo. Love these RALs. It is fun to read King with all of you. Have my book and ready to get started. The gangster cats were pretty cute, too, for Per Semetary. :)

Ok, ready to get started tonight.

Melissa (Avid Reader) said...

Mari - I forgot about the gangster cats! I was too scared to join the Pet Sematary readalong :)

Count me in! I wasn't going to re-listen to this one, but I just couldn't pass up another King readalong!

Melissa (Avid Reader) said...

Michelle - Yay! Welcome to the madness.

I was late to committing but I'm IN. My audio download became available 2 days ago so I'm in and on chapter 7. It's been 30+ years for me with this one and it's as exciting as the first read! Thanks for hosting.

Diane - So glad you got to join us!

I've got my summary post up today for my experience re-reading Salem's Lot. I had such a good time and thank you guys for suggesting this. Here's my thoughts:
