Top Ten Books At The Top Of My Summer TBR List

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

This week's Top Ten from The Broke and the Bookish asks for our Top Ten Books on our summer TBR list.

1) Under the Dome – I caved, reading peer pressure from my King-along readers.

2) Gone With the Wind – A re-read before a trip to Atlanta.

3) The March – Another good one to read before Atlanta.

4) Don Quixote – It’s been on my list for so long!

5) Amazing Grace – After hearing the author speak, this one has been high on my list.

6) The Ocean at the End of the Lane – It’s Gaiman, I must get my hands on it!!!

7) About a Boy – One of the only Nick Hornby novels I haven’t read and I heard there is a TV show version being release this fall.

8) The Harry Potter series – I’m planning to re-read it before our trip to HP World in September!

9) The Comedy of Errors – Another Shakespeare play for the Let’s Read Plays challenge

10) The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet – A graphic novel for fun.

I'm looking forward to the Under the Dome mini series on tv, but won't re-read the book. I didn't think it was one of his best.

A coworker attempted Don Quixote earlier this year. Her succinct review: "Oh, it was just one crazy thing after another!" Haha

A TV version of About a Boy?! I hadn't heard that! I loved the movie, but haven't read it yet.

The Gaiman is good. Really good :)

Hooray for peer pressure ;) I'm doing the DomeAlong as well. I finished the book already. I tried so hard to pace myself but I couldn't do it!

It's a brilliant idea to reread GWTW before you head to Atlanta!

You've got a couple of chunky boys on here! BTW the audio of Under the Dome is great. And while it took me like a month or more to read GWTW, I enjoyed every moment. I love that book.

Wow. The whole Harry Potter reread! Between, Dome, GWTW, and HP you will be racking up the page count!! Impressive.

Under the Dome is so good. Glad you're reading it.

I'm nervous about the mini-series. I'm crossing my fingers that it's good and I'm wondering how they're going to do certain scenes.

I get my Gaiman today. So excited!

Jay - Ha, that Don Quixote comment cracks me up.

Sarah - Yeah, I enjoyed the movie too. The TV show stars Minnie Driver and should be out this fall.

Jennifer - Ha, that's why I waited to start it. I had a feeling it would be hard to put down. I started Friday and I'm at 47% on my kindle now.

Sandy - I'm really excited about re-reading GWTW. I haven't read it in 10 years and I think it will be intersting to see how it is different this time around.

wordhits - I guess so! I kinda love having big fat books to sink into sometimes.

Loni - I know! I looked up the cast on imdb the other day and couldn't find some of my favorite characters, so I'm nervous they were cut from the cast.

Nikki - I'm so jealous! I need to get it.

I also really want to read Under the Dome this summer but by the looks of all the other books I want to read this summer, I don't know if I'll have time. Maybe in the fall.
But I do plan on rereading Harry Potter this summer in August!

Reading the Gaiman now, and so far it is very good. It isn't a very long book, sadly, and it will be over far too soon, especially given how long we've waited for a new Gaiman novel. I hope a new short story collection will soon follow.

Don Quixote! I started that giant book a year or two ago and was enjoying it, but I set it aside about 1/4 of the way through and never went back... I'll have to read it eventually.

And YAY for re-reading HP, that's an awesome summer idea!

Amazing Grace! I keep saying I need to get to this. I'm ashamed it is taking me so long.

When do you think you'll be reading Don Quixote? I would love to read it about the same time so I have someone to talk to about it.

Interesting about the TV show of About a Boy. I loved the movie, but haven't read the book, despite having a copy on my shelf.

Under the Dome is so good. I think the writing is a little tighter than some of his other long books. I'm finding myself fully engaged where other books there were parts that dragged.

booksteame.com - Yay for HP in the summer! We'll have to share our notes.

Carl - I don't have a copy of Gaiman's book yet. I'm dying to pick up a copy!

Sarah - I have a feeling the old Don is going to be a tough one.

Care - The author was so fascinating! I'm about 30% of the way in and it's good so far!

Kristi - Ok, so for Don Q I'm thinking maybe August? We'll have to discuss a time that works for you, because I agree that it would be so helpful to have someone to read it with. I'm 50% into Dome and it really hooks you!

August would work for me. I'm pretty flexible. Whatever you decide, let me know and I'll read with you.

I'm about to finish Don Quixote (it was my #ccspin book). It's good - the second book is actually better than the first, in my opinion. And it's a much quicker read than I was expecting BUT I do believe it is longer than it needed to be.

Melissa (Avid Reader) said...

Kristi - Perfect. We'll email and find a good time.

Adam - I'm looking forward to your review. I keep hearing very mixed things about it.

I still need to read Gone with the Wind. I love the movie. My boyfriend just bought us under the dome last week oddly enough. :) Great list!! Have a great Summer of reading!
Here is my post from Tuesday.

Jay Riv - I love GWTW the book and the movie, but the book is much more about the Civil War than just about the romantic aspect. Can't wait to reread it!
