Top Ten Authors That I'd Put On My Auto-Buy List

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

This week's Top Ten from The Broke and the Bookish asks for the Top Ten Authors That I'd Put On My Auto-Buy List. These are authors that you love so much you as no questions about their latest book, you just add it to your wishlist. I have lots of classic authors that would fall into this category, but I’m only going to list authors that are still writing books.

1) Maeve Binchy (she passed away this year, but she still has one unreleased book)

2) Jhumpa Lahiri

3) Carlos Ruiz Zafon

4) Jasper Fforde

5) Kate Morton

6) Nick Hornby

7) John Green

8) Tana French

9) Markus Zusak

10) Neil Gaiman

I discovered Nick Hornby last year. I love an author who can break your heart and make you laugh at the same time. :)

Cindy - He is! His new Shades of Grey series was so much fun too!

Amy - I think that takes a particular skill, but it's such a gift.

I love Neil Gaiman's books but I also just want to give him a hug because he seems like such a sweet guy! I love Lahiri and had forgotten about her -- will have to go out and see if there's anything I missed.

Neil Gaiman is on my list, too! And I have loved the Zusak books I've read - I should really dive into his backlist one of these days. Thanks for sharing your picks!

I love Jasper Fforde's books! He'd probably be on my list, too, if I were inclined to "auto-buy" books. I need to see reviews even for authors I otherwise like (unless the book is $2.99 or below, when I'm likely to buy it on impulse).

Kate Morton. Absolutely. If I had a list...I would add Gary Schmidt.

Tana and Jhumpa would make my list … I love this question. Going to have to work on it.

That's my Melissa! French and Morton would totally be on my list (and Sara Waters). They are also on my list of authors for whom I'd have their children.

Great list! How could I have forgotten Jhumpa Lahiri? She's definitely on my list!

Red - High Fidelity was my first Honrby book too. A few of his have missed for me, but I love that one.

fisback182 - I waited to read French until September and I loved her!

Nikki - I know, he just seems like such a great guy!

misfortuneofknowing - Fforde is pretty reliably great!

Melissa - I've read one of his books and it was good. I should check out more of his work.

Suey - Both are great authors!

Cecelia - I just read Zusak's earliest books this past year. They're different from The Book Thief, but they still have a spark of his writing.

Jenners - I like this questions too. The second I saw it I knew exactly who would be on my list.

Sandy - Yes! Waters is another great one.

Melody - Love her!

Ali - Me too. He's Believer columns are so much fun.
