Shakespeare: Coming to a town near you!

Have you guys heard about this?

In 2010, four of the plays performed at the Globe theatre in London were filmed for the big screen. Now they’re being shown across the nation. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing two plays live at the Globe in London and both were amazing. I can’t wait to see these.

Shakespeare’s Globe London Cinema Series

-Monday, June 27th – The Merry Wives of Windsor
-Monday, August 1st – Henry IV Part 1
-Thursday, August 18th – Henry IV Part 2
-Thursday, September 15th – Henry VIII

I’m a huge fan of the Bard, especially seeing his work performed live. I already have tickets to the June 27th show and I’m hoping to make it to as many of the others as I can. It looks like there are theatres in almost every single state that are participating and I hope some of you get a chance to go!

Have a wonderful time! I'm going to the actual Globe for the first time ever next month, and I'm ridiculously excited.

That's pretty amazing! I hope you enjoy it. Too bad it's only in the US. I love The Globe. We did a tour of it a few months ago. I have yet to see a live play, though. Maybe next time we head to London.

Oh this looks like so much fun! And it's coming to my city! I'll have to figure out how to get there. I really want to go!

Shamefully, despite having lived within easy walking distance of the Globe for a few years. I have never been. I really should do!

Being a groundling at the Globe is the most perfect theater experience...

Nymeth - Oh, I hope you love it! I can't wait to hear what play you get to see.

Kristi - It is a bummer that it's only in the USA, but you UK people get the real thing!

Heather - There's a great PDF on the site that lets you see what theatres in your state are showing it. Then you can buy tickets through the website. I hope you go! I always try to support stuff like this when it's available, because I want them to keep offering it.

Falaise - Get thee to the theatre!

Mumsy - I agree, it's the only way to see it. The shows are so enthralling that you forget you're standing in a crowded area for 3 hours. I love being about to look up and see the stars too.

I'm a huge fan of the theater available to people all over the country. I haven't done Shakespeare yet, but my parents have enjoyed the opera, and I've seen a few contemporary plays broadcast from London.

Lucky you. I missed doing that in London. But I have seen Taming of the Shrew at Stratford, Canada. Have you been there? It's relatively close and it's awesome.

I have never seen any like this before, but I want to! I just wish there were more events like this where I live.

Falstaff fans must be very happy about this lineup!

nomadreader - There's nothing quite like live theatre!

BookQuoter - I haven't been, but I would love to go! I've been to an outdoor Shakespeare theatre in Wisconsin, which is wonderful. I'm going again this fall and have tickets to Taming of the Shrew and a few others.

Jillian - That's why this is such a cool thing, they're bringing the Globe to you!

Enbrethiliel - Yes, he's always entertaining.

Like Nymeth, I get to go to the Globe for the first time ever next month. We're seeing Dr. Faustus with seats and All's Well That Ends Well as groundlings (on the advice of Mumsy and Jenny). We'll have to see if we can get to one of these movies, too.

Oh my God YES. I miss the Globe SO MUCH. I have to see Henry IV if nothing else -- Henry IV is the one of Shakespeare's histories that I've been saving for myself to see live before I read it. Oh goody goody goody goody goody.

Jeanne - You're going to love it! I can't wait to hear what you think.

Jenny - I haven't seen Henry IV yet either and I can't wait!

**I saw The Merry Wives of Windsor last night and it was so much fun. They even had a short documentary about the Globe and that particular performance before the show started.

It is good to be back at last catching up with your blogging activities. There is something rather special about The Globe.

sigh.... one of my wishes is to watch a Shakespearan play at the actual location where he did the plays.
Wonder when that will happen.

LindyLou - There is, it's a completely unique experience.

Haddock - I hope you get a chance to one day!
