Top Ten Books On My Fall 2013 TBR List

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

This week's Top Ten from The Broke and the Bookish asks for the Top Ten Books on My Fall 2013 TBR List.

1) Among Schoolchildren by Tracy Kidder: It’s on my TBR Challenge list and my book club is reading it this year.

2) The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky: This beast is the last book I need to read for the Back to the Classics Challenge.

3) Dune by Frank Herbert: I’m really looking forward to finally reading this one. It’s been on my list too long.

4) The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith: Caved to the hype. I love the Harry Potter books and I’m a fan of the occasionally crime noir.

5) Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya: I try to read at least one banned book each year and this is my selection for 2013.

6) If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino: Care and I are planning a laid back readalong on this one this fall.

7) The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare: I’m a bit behind on my Let’s Read Plays challenge.

8) The Night Watch by Sarah Waters: All three of these final ones are books I’ve had my eye on for the annual R.I.P. Challenge. I love a good spooky story or mystery in the fall!

9) The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins

10) Faithful Place by Tana French

Brothers Karamazov. Oh dear--good luck! :) I did really like The Moonstone though!

I loved The Cuckoo's Calling. It was fun and interesting. I hope you like it too.

I've own The Brother's Karamazov for probably 10 years and it continues to sit unread on my shelf.

Excellent choices! I'm especially keen to read more Sarah Waters this fall and perhaps The Moonstone for Lit Nerd's readalong!

Great list! I really want to reread The Moonstone some time in the near future!

I'm STILL WAITING for Cuckoo on audio from the library...I'll get it someday. And I loved The Moonstone! Don't remember if I told you this, but Night Watch is not scary at all. It is a heartbreaking story about love and relationships in WWII...and is told backwards which is unique. It is definitely not your typical Waters book, and probably my least favorite but still very good and a worthy read.

I really enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling - it's the first book I've ever read switching back and forth from print to audio, and I can recommend both versions. I haven't read Faithful Place yet, but it's in my TBR.

Trish - I'm kind of terrified of that one.

Loni - I think I've owned The Brother for about the same amount of time. It's sat there too long!

Andi - Oh I didn't know there was a readalong! I may have to check that out!

Brooke - It's been on my TBR list for such a long time.

bkclubcare - We can do it!

Sandy - Maybe I'll save that one for later this fall. I'm a sucker for WWII books.

Belle Wong - I've only read a couple books that way and it's always an interesting experience.

JoAnn - I'm excited to read it!

I just started Collins' "The Woman in White." It's the first book I've read by him. I've been saving it for fall. :-) I can't wait to hear your thoughts on "The Moonstone."

Amy - That's the only Collins I've read and it was really good. Marian is the best!
