Melissa (Avid Reader)
I love books and I'll read just about anything. I tend to read a lot of literary fiction and classics, but I'm always looking for recommendations. I'm in my 20s and have been reading for as long as I can remember. My Rating System (I rate on my personal reaction to the book): ★ = one star ☆ = 1/2 star ★★★★★: A new favorite, a must-read ★★★★: Liked it a lot ★★★: Nothing special, but OK ★★: Not my cup of tea ★: Waste of time

The Lost Symbol: 528 pages

I LOVED Pillars of the Earth! And Stieg Larrson, but I much preferred the Dragon Tattoo one instead of the other two, and I liked The Lost Symbol, as well. I've heard about Holly's Inbox, so I'm going to have to check that one out -- but holy mama, you read Les Miserables?? Hats off to you, sister! That's one that I would hide in the corner of my home office before touching that one -- intimidated? Why, yes, I am!! :)

Good for you! This sounds like a fulfilling challenge. I've got a near-1000 page copy of Bill Clinton's My Life to tackle. I remember reading Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela (that's a long one, but I forget the page count) and being so proud to have finished it (I was 14 to boot!).

HA! I was going to question your inclusion of HOlly's Inbox but you redeemed yourself with Les Miz and Pillars!! No, really,GOOD for you. Congrats on completing a challenge I know I wouldn't even begin to think about attempting. (I LOVE LOVE LOVE LURVE Les Miserables but I couldn't finish Pillars... )

I really liked the Angel's Game, though not as much as The Shadow of the Wind. Awesome job on the challenge. I wish I would have stumbled across this challenge, I would have read some of my more intimidating books!

Coffee - Les Mis was a seriously tough one, but very rewarding by the end.

Teacher - You read Mandela's book at 14! That's awesome.

bkclubcare - I know Holly's Inbox was such an easy read, but I didn't need it to complete the challenge so I thought I'd leave it in there.

Brenna - You should still do the challenge. It's open until the end of the year and you only need to complete 3 books (at least 450 pages) to do the lowest level.

p.s. I loved The Shadow of the Wind the most too!

Good job on the challenge! I was pleased to discover I too have completed the chunkster challenge this year without even realizing it! ;)

I've read the Stieg Larsson books as well (they went so fast it hardly seems fair to count them as 'chunksters') and Pillars of the Earth. I also knocked out Gone With the Wind, Under the Dome, and The Passage (which I see you are currently reading - I'd be interested to hear what you think of that one). Of the others on your list, I've had The Lost Symbol queued up on my TBR list for awhile now, and have Les Miserables on my bookshelf but have never taken the plunge. Maybe you will inspire me...

I like your blog. We have read several of the same books recently. (I just finished Killer Angels last month & really like it).

bibliophilica - Gone With the Wind is a great one! The Lost Symbol was pretty weak, but I'm enjoying Killer Angels so far.
