I kept seeing other bloggers reviews and it looked so interesting.

Lu - Thanks! Yes, I remember the whole first third and last third so well, but I have a feeling the middle section is going to become more and more muddled with time.

Shelley - The "support" group was much needed for this one. I agree about the mundane sections becoming laughable. It almost seemed like a joke after awhile.Melissa (Avid Reader)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02119628715475021774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-8309123327183396572012-02-05T21:01:15.706-05:002012-02-05T21:01:15.706-05:00I love quote you open with. I loved his writing, and underlined so many things. Its flaws kind of made me chuckle more than anything else. I came to laugh out loud at his insane audacity to keep going on and on and on about the whaling details.
Wonderful review-I love the quotes you picked. Congratulations on finishing Moby Dick. I ...Woohoo! Congratulations on finishing Moby Dick. I loved your analysis and agree with you. There were definitely parts of this novel that I did not enjoy. There were good chunks in the middle that I barely remember, because I was on reading autopilot a lot of the time. But Melville's sense of humor, his eye for detail, and his skill at telling an exciting story all made this worthwhile.Leslie @ This is the Refrainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18027804132268043518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-75188712528029993992012-02-04T22:31:18.850-05:002012-02-04T22:31:18.850-05:00All the posts I have seen about this book make me ...All the posts I have seen about this book make me think I really need to read this one of these days!Kailanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11136262232046813471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-16630650885204110762012-02-04T09:58:51.997-05:002012-02-04T09:58:51.997-05:00Allie - That's how I felt. I felt that same awe at discovering such a foreign world. I think that right now I'm in the "patient reader" stage of life and maybe that's why I'm reading so many of the big classics I've always wanted to read. I don't know how I'll feel in a few years, but I can see this being a book I dip into more than reread. There were too many sections that dragged for me.Melissa (Avid Reader)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02119628715475021774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-91645454067252295442012-02-03T03:38:31.974-05:002012-02-03T03:38:31.974-05:00I think there are two major reasons why I loved it...I think there are two major reasons why I loved it so much, the fantastic use of imagery( there are scenes there which I still recall with an almost sensual delight so many years after reading)and the feeling of being minutely plunged into a world so alien to any I will ever experience.

It has been nearly twenty years since I read it though! And I used to be an infinitely more patient reader than I am now. It will be interesting to se what I think on re-read ( I suspect it will become a 'dipper' book. Something I leaf through for glory moments rather than slog through out of stubbornness)Celinehttp://celinekiernan.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-53382681461123373522012-02-02T17:18:58.031-05:002012-02-02T17:18:58.031-05:00I've never wanted to read this--it's prett...I've never wanted to read this--it's pretty much the only great work of English or American literature I haven't read--but now you've made me want to read it.Jeannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01374498643286099244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-19485926901285899762012-02-02T13:38:07.769-05:002012-02-02T13:38:07.769-05:00Jessica - I really struggled with parts of it. I struggled with the rating, because parts of it were worth about 1 star to me, but the overall experience was so rich and challenging.

Celine - I love treating myself to re-reads at the holidays! I'm glad to find someone who loves the book. I've found a lot of people who hate it.

Care - I do that with other books. I bookmark all the posts on it until I get a chance to read it.

Mumsy - I definitely didn't like every line. I would go through chapter after chapter and be incredibly bored, but then I'd find a sentence, like some of the ones I listed in the post, and it was just so beautiful!

Brenna - A readalong is the way to go. It's just a really rough book. But I know there are a lot of book bloggers who still want to read it, so maybe try and host one next year.

Jenners - That might improve the reading experience big time, but I'm so OCD I don't think I could ever do it. I'd feel like I was reading an abridged version.Melissa (Avid Reader)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02119628715475021774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8481406859587493585.post-41334547806866699562012-02-02T13:16:43.222-05:002012-02-02T13:16:43.222-05:00Love the photo!!
